Face Yourself

It was at the dark
hour, on the dark
day of the dead
when I saw
the face in the window

transparent
opaque
nameless – like a broken promise
But sinister
Invoking breathless
sensations
in my mournful
shadows

Staring – with lidless eyes
but not at me
but behind me
over my shoulder

I turn slowly
feeling like I’m on
the very edge
of a deep, deep drop

In the corner
of my eye I see
the face in the window
move – make ripples in the air
that push against my chest
choking me
and catching my breath

Time slows
to endless
eternity

I am caught
and not caught

breathing
and breathless

I am falling
and frozen

I am in the dark
and reflecting

I am here
and I am there

I am the face in the window
